Anchovy Allergy Test

Anchovy allergies are extremely common because anchovies contain a protein which the human immune system often mistakes for a harmful substance.

If you are allergic to shellfish, then it is extremely likely that you are allergic to anchovies as well, as they do contain the same protein which raises red flags for the immune system.

Anchovy allergies can be especially difficult because they are usually an unexpected ingredient in things like:

• Worcestershire sauce
• Barbecue sauce that contains Worcestershire
• Some relishes

Anchovy allergy symptoms can vary drastically in severity. Most commonly, an allergic reaction to anchovies would involve hives surfacing on the skin, a tingling sensation in the mouth, vomit, or diarrhea. Even more concerning but less common symptoms include trouble breathing and/or a blood pressure drop.
