Aromatic Solvent Toxin Profile, Blood

The aromatic solvent profile tests for levels of exposure to the following five solvents:

• Benzene
• Ethyl benzene
• Styrene
• Toluene
• Xylene

Aromatic solvents are commonly found in paints, paint thinners and glues.

Aromatic solvents, also known as aromatic hydrocarbons, are dangerous solvents that can be absorbed through the skin or inhaled. Inhalation is a major hazard, and can cause severe harm to health. Overtime, benzene can destroy bone marrow. Toluene can cause liver and kidney damage, and in high concentrations can adversely affect reproductive health. Styrene can cause respiratory irritation, narcosis, liver, kidney and even nerve damage. Xylene can have health effects similar to toluene.
