Flaxseed (Linseed) Allergy Test

This IgE allergy test uses a blood sample to determine if you are allergic to flaxseed (Linseed).

Egyptians, Hebrews, Greeks, Romans and New World civilizations used the seeds as food and the fibers (known as flax) for textiles. The seeds contain 30-40% oil that is comprised mainly linoleic and linolenic acids and is mainly used in the preparation of varnish, paint, linoleum and soap.

Individuals may be unexpectedly exposed to flax or flaxseed in cereals, granola, milk from cows that are fed flax, laxatives, shampoo, hair tonic, infusions, depilatories, cattle feed, dog food, patent leather, insulating materials, carpets, cloth, cough remedies, breads, muffins, and other “health food” products.

Symptoms of a flaxseed allergy can include the following:

• Trouble breathing
• Gastrointestinal discomfort
• Spike in blood sugar
• Thinner blood
• Increased blood levels of cyanide
