This blood test is used to detect and confirm the presence of opiate drugs. Opiates are a group of drugs derived from opium that are used for treating pain. Opiates have potential to be abused and form addiction, as they produce feelings of euphoria.

Common opiate drugs include:

• Codeine
• Oxycodone (Oxycontin®, Percocet®, Percodan®)
• Hydromorphone
• Morphine
• Hydrocodone
