About Our Psilocybin Mushroom Drug Test, Urine
How Our Mushroom Drug Test Works
Most standardized drug tests don't look for psilocybin or psilocin, so this test is geared specifically towards mushroom drug testing for those looking to bridge that gap.
At the lab, a technician will give you a cup in which you supply your urine.
First, the urine is tested by liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS-MS) at a threshold of 1.0 ng/mL. If the first test is positive, we run a second confirmatory test that is done by a definitive liquid LC/MS-MS at the same testing threshold to ensure the most accurate result.
Psilocybin Detection Windows
Mushrooms can leave the body from 24 hours up to 3 days depending on how often the person uses mushrooms. It also depends on how easily each person's body metabolizes the drug. The longer it takes, the longer it is detectable in a urine test.
Other factors to take into account that affect detection windows are:
- Age
- Weight
- Race
- Height
- Alcohol use
- Smoking history
- Kidney health
- Liver health
- Existing medical conditions
More About Mushrooms/Psilocybin
Psilocybin mushrooms are also known as magic mushrooms, shrooms, and purple passion. They are categorized as a Schedule I controlled substance.
When psilocybin enters the body, it turns into psilocin and is believed to have effects on serotonin levels in the brain. It can lead to unusual and altered perceptions due to different brain regions having an increase in activity. Effects include paranoia, nervousness, panic reactions, nausea, and yawning.
The effects can take 30-45 minutes to begin, and peak after around 90 minutes. The effects can last for up to 6 hours.
How to Prepare the Psilocybin Drug Test
To ensure the most accurate results, avoid drinking an excessive amount of liquid before supplying the sample. Excessive liquids do not alter a test from a positive to a negative, instead you will end up resulting “invalid,” meaning the technician was unable to decide if the test was positive or negative and needs a new sample for an official result.
At the lab, you will need to present an official I.D. along with your test order form that is emailed after ordering your test. Upon arrival, you sign in and will soon be brought to the back where a lab technician will explain what is needed for your sample. You can expect to be given a small container and will be directed to a private bathroom where you will collect your urine sample.
Explaining the Shroom Drug Test Results
After your visit to the lab, it may take 7 - 14 business days for you to receive your results. If you test positive, it may take an additional 2 - 4 business days to confirm the positive result.
Your results will indicate positive, negative, or inconclusive/invalid. The threshold that the detected levels need to exceed in order to be declared positive is 1.0 ng/mL.
- A positive result means that a higher amount of psilocin than the threshold was found in your urine.
A negative result means that psilocin was not found higher than the threshold in your urine.
