About Our Seminal Fluid Allergy Test

Our IgE blood allergy test will determine if you are allergic to seminal fluid, also commonly referred to as a sperm or semen allergy.

Allergies to seminal plasma, also known as human seminal plasma hypersensitivity (HSP), are relatively rare but can be a serious problem that affects both men and women, although it is widely more common among women. Allergic reactions to semen/seminal fluid have been shown to be a factor involved in infertility, although there are options for those trying to get pregnant with a semen allergy.

The major allergens involved have been reported to be 20-30 kD glycoproteins present in the seminal plasma.

Symptoms of an allergic reaction to semen are often localized and may appear anywhere semen has come in contact with on the body. This can include the hands, mouth, chest, anus, shaft, vulva, or inside the vaginal canal.

Moderate symptoms of an allergic reaction to semen can include:

  • Rashes on the skin
  • Itching or tingles
  • Burning or pain
  • Redness
  • Swelling

Although uncommon, a severe reaction such as anaphylaxis is possible. Symptoms of anaphylaxis usually develop within minutes of exposure and quickly requires immediate medical attention.

Symptoms of anaphylaxis include:

  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Nausea
  • Wheezing
  • Dizziness or fainting
  • Rapid, weak pulse
  • Swollen tongue or throat
  • Serious trouble breathing

HealthLabs.com offers an easier, virtually pain-free blood test to determine the allergen status of substances without the irritation of traditional skin prick tests.

  • Tests are administered at any of our 4,500+ nationwide locations
  • Typical time to administer the test is 10-15 minutes
  • Accurate results within 1 to 3 days
